Consulting

I loved what the direct mail expert Dick Benson said about consulting: "What a consultant does is most often shaped by the needs of the client.....My role is to improve the efficientcy of the clients (business)....I expect my clients to treat me as a vice president of their company. It is impossible to be even reasonably competent as a consultant if the client is not completely open about his business."

The Story Behind The Name Exec Net Consulting

The name of my consulting business: Exec Net Consulting  Background of this name: In 1998 I was operating an Internet Service Provider business that I started in 1995. I was introduced to the Internet by a couple of young people who by looking at them you would never have thought they knew much about anything. (Valuable lesson.) Anyway the industry was a classic case of a large number of small businesses with a few dominent players. Actually that profile has not changed much. The names have changed. So I concluded that part of my expansion strategy would be to acquire a number of small Internet Service Providers (ISP's).

One company I acquired was Exec.Net  Later, I realized that I was using a network of professionals with specific skills to assist clients. Most often that network was comprised of technology experts since many companies have issues with computers and software. As I thought about this professional network or executive network I realized I owned the name that would promote this concept. Over time I have bounced around on names and right now I am back on the thinking the true brand is me. At the end of the day at this point of time what companies buy is the expertise I bring to them.

The Evolution of Consuling Themes On The Internet and The Objective of This Site

For market development purposes I have created themes of service to catch people's attention. Now each of these names are linked on the navigation bar, site map and in the links page. I could have hperlinked them here for your convenience but I am designing this site: StevePohlit.com  to accomplish three primary objectives.

  1. Candidly I need one place to go to review my own business and personal interest development plan. Like everyone else all work I have done or interests I pursued were great ideas at the time. Some of them need to be recognized as great ideas in theory and for someone else to role with it.
  2. Provide more information for those people who like to research this kind of material in connection with hiring me.
  3. Make this as search engine friendly as possible so tons of people find this site and want me to help them. I mean without doing much work this thing has a page rank of 4 on Google and I have to tell you that this baby is going way up and today is August 1, 2005 and let's see what happens. I will post the changes in ranking here as I notice them.
