Additional Background:
There are fundamental principles that cross industry boundaries. For example, if you read my material you will notice a consistent emphasis on knowing your available cash and liquidity position. This principle applies to every business regardless of size or industry. There are other principles like this that apply to all companies regardless of size or industry.
Now with that being true, then why is it that many companies have trouble with these principles and why don't every consultant teach them? The answer is very simple: companies are operated by people and people come from varying backgrounds and experience. In addition, consistently focusing on the principles of running a company takes self-discipline and persistence. These are attributes that many people have difficulty with consistently. So you will find a lot of concentration on the what I call the management system required to consistently focus on the foundation principles of running a business.
Once there is a clear understanding and commitment to the foundation business principles, then we are in a position to review some of the transactional differences that are not common to every industry. For example, when you walk into a drug store for container of shampoo or whatever it is you need there, when you are finished you go to the counter and pay at the cash register. You may use cash, check, credit card or a debit card. That activity is universally the same for physical retail stores. On the other hand, if you are the manufacturing company providing retail stores with shampoo it is unlikely you have cash registers. The trucking company deliving product to the retail stores is unlikely to have cash registers. The maintenance departments for a trucking company will require different skills than the maintenance department for a shampoo manufacturer.
Hopefully, you are beginning to understand that foundation business principles are universal and the differeneces between industries are transactional. The major industries where I have created sites to address transactional differences include the following:
