Blogging for Profits: Issue No.6: Do This One Thing A Explode The Profits From Your Blog
In previous issues we have reviewed the mechanics of setting up a blog and the information strategy you should be developing for your blog. If you need help with setting up a blog, go to one of the outsourcing job boards like www.rentacoder.com or www.elance.com and issue a request for a proposal. Quite candidly I recommend you or someone in your business learn how to set up a blog because it is likely you will find opportunities for operating more than one blog as you get better at defining your niche markets. But do not delay getting started. I personally used a person skilled in Word Press blogs to help me when I started www.stevereports.com Now I update the site and make changes for the content I post. For this blog I am the writer so I find that is the easiest and fastest way for me to do it.
The goal of Blogging For Profits is to advise you on how to maximize the profit potential of a blog for your business in the shortest amount of time. As promised, I am now going to disclose possibly the single best action you can implement right now to explode the profit potential of your blog. This action item is not being discussed by internet marketers and I have not seen it discussed in business magazines, newspapers or in on-line forums. However since it is impossible for anyone person to monitor all on line and off line content for a topic I am not claiming to be the first to reveal this powerful tool. On second thought yes I am until someone can show me an article or forum discussion that is legitimately dated prior to June 30, 2006.
Here is a little background to how I discovered this tool. (Don't worry there is no software program, or book or anything else you have to buy from me in order to implement this action item that will help you earn massive amounts of money using your blog). I have been a student of Dan Kennedy's No B.S. marketing system since the mid 90's. Dan is an expert at direct response marketing using direct mail. I have also been a System's Club member of Ken McCarthy for about four years. Ken and his board of advisors are largely experts of direct response marketing using the Internet. When you study the marketing material from Dan, Ken and small group of other experts it is apparent that you need a list of people who are interested in what you are marketing. For example, if you have a organic food and all natural supplement retail store you would find a list of people within about a three mile radius of your store who have demonstrated an interest in health products by their buying patterns. Of course you would also have your data base of customers who have purchased from you and who have visited store because you have been following the direction I have provided on this blog and in the articles at my web site www.stevepohlit.com
Now I am sure you understand and hopefully are implement the principle of developing a targeted list of people interested in what it is you are marketing. You are on my list for this blog because you are interested in the theme of the blog. What am I marketing? I am marketing my expertise as a consultant who helps companies make a lot money. I am marketing by writing. I am successful because even though most of what I do has already been thought of by business owners, they have not implemented. I am hired because a few astute business owners understand the importance of taking action. As for this blog, your blog or any business blog, the information should be part of a strategy to increase your business profits. I have decided to write a lot of information. I have been doing that for more than a couple years now and I am in the process consolidating the material I have written on this blog. So you are in the right place for great information that will help you make money.
However, unless you are on my list or find my blog in a search, you would not know about this information. Your company's blog is unknown unless you develop a list and alert your list when there are updates. Several years ago there were a lot fewer blogs. Then it was practical to suggest adding your blog to a contact's RSS reader. Today this can still be done. However, there are a huge number of blogs and it is not practical for the average person to track and read all the information that flows into an RSS reader. I am not advising against this method. Developing and communicating with your list is much more effective.
The Secret Nobody Is Talking About:
In the past month I have been informally talking with privately held business owners with companies in the range of $6 million to $50 million about blogs. I have also been talking to another group of people - non business owner college age students and recent grads. Now this is an informal survey, but I was shocked to discover how many people had no idea about what a blog is and if they did, they had no clue as to the power of a blog to develop business and be its own profit center. If your want your blog to optimize its profit contribution potential, you have to promote it off line. In the example above where I mentioned the health food store, the opportunity to provide valuable content on a blog and promote relevant products is huge. However, to optimize the readership of the blog the owner of this store should advertise hot topic headlines in local papers and magazines that drive readers to a link for that article. Then just like I do with this series, a reader needs to register to read the entire article and that is how the list starts growing.
Let's continue on with the health food store and once you understand the principles you can apply this example to your own business. Every retail store I have shopped takes credit cards. This means many can have a mail order business in addition to physical traffic in the store. Once print ads are tested locally and verified to draw readers some of whom become buyers, then the promotion can extend to regional and national publications. The promotions continue to expand as long as there is an acceptable return on investment.
The next time you are browsing through a paper or magazine, notice how many businesses promote product and or price. Long term value is developed by providing valuable information. Delivering content that your target customer finds valuable results in long term relationships being formed which is the foundation of business profits long term.
In the next lesson discover the one technique that almost nobody is using that will significantly increase your revenue and profits and it all starts with your blog.
